MT Beer Review

Travelled to Mt Tamborine to celebrate a special occasion and during our travels we visited the MT Brewery and samples their unique selection of beers. As you will see from the reviews below the beers are not like your normal Aussie beers that are on tap. You will also notice that Bede is a man of adventure when it comes to beer and I am a more...simple. Glad we samples and didn't just get take-aways - I would have straight way gone for a six pack of the larger when in fact I preferred the ale, which is very unusual. Beyond the beers, the pub had a great atmosphere, the staff were proficient and friendly AND you can see into the brewing room.

Moderation Golden Ale - 3/5 stars (Bede & Cass) - Fruity aroma, super smooth, mango/tropical flavours.

Rainforest Larger - 2.5/5 stars (Bede & Cass) - smells like a dirty larger, clear and very pale, subtly sweet, rather hoppy.

Black Cockatoo Dark Larger - 2.5/5 stars (Bede), 0/5 stars (Cass) - Very smoky aroma, way too strong (for Cass). Double Choc South was better and it was terrible!

Cuvee Belgian Blond - 1.5/5 stars (Bede & Cass) - Smells like another dirty larger again, quite tangy, Cass no likey!

St Bridget Dubbel - 3/5 (Bede), 1/5 (Cass) - Smells like brewing, taste very alcoholic, mega malty.

There is another wheat beer but it didn't come in the sample set.

The Velvet Spoon - Peep Show Series 8

Sick of having to make a cup of coffee for other people just because you want one? Well you should get onto the 'velvet spoon' routine... coined by the creators of Peep Show the Velvet Spoon enables to you make yourself a coffee while other are completely oblivious and therefore don't have to make them one. In series 8, episode 2 of Peep Show, Mark is doing some late night work  and gets up to make a coffee. As he makes the coffee he uses the Velvet spoon routine so that his flatmate Jez doesn't hear and therefore doesn't have to make him one, however, Mark is rumbled by Jez who has been kept up all night by Marks effort to 'massacre imaginary ants swarming [his] keyboard". I've provided a link to the episode on youtube. At 7:31 you can see the velvet spoon in action. The velvet spoon involved stirring the spoon without making contact the the sides or bottom of the coffee cup to avoid making noise. Takes a little more time than normal stirri...

How to sew a clasp to a medal

The medals didn't come with information on how to attach the medals only how far apart to place them. They miniature medal is obviously just through the eyelet and around the edge (see 1st sketch bellow) but the large medal has two eyelets which could be sewn through just the eyelets (left side of 2nd sketch) and not around the edge or around the edge (right side of 2nd sketch). I only suggest it could have been around the edges because then the mini an full would look the same. Did some research and based on the pictures that I could find (note: mainly British medals) the stitch on the full medal goes only between the two eyelets.   What you will need: - medals and clasps (obviously) - measurements (should comes with medal) - thread matching the ribbon (in this case green and not gold...also obvious) - needle and needle threader - scissors - ruler  Measure the distances according to the information provided with the medal. This is the mini...

New Elna - Elina 21 - Sewing Machine

Got my first sewing machine for Christmas from my Mum and Dad. Super excited about it because I've always enjoyed sewing since high school home-ec classes and doing a little bit of costume making at home, and have a few things to do that require a sewing machine. Elna Elina 21 has got all the basic stitches and settings that I'll need and comes with a zipper and button foot. Had a flick through the menu with Bede and did a practice of all the stitches to see what they looked like and also to test the tension. Very please with the machine and I'm about to start a proper project on it, Free Frilly Apron Pattern , which can be followed from this link . Got extra bobbins that fit this machine from Ebay . They were super cheap ($6.80 for 25) and came in a bobbin case which was great. And you can get the same ones in rainbow colours which was really cool.
