I hate the vertical blinds in my rental apartment because they don't block the sun or the neighbours eyes. So, fury into action, I had previously been using a bit of black-out material draped over the window which almost worked but not quite. Also, I don't have a sewing machine so there are a few things I would have done to make it look a little nicer. But for now this is about practicality not aesthetics :P So this is my solution...(and yes Mum I know its not ironed, couldn't be bothered).
1. Sun blocker - I folded over the top edge of the material twice (about 10mm each) and used push pins (or thumb tacks) to secure it the a length of timber. N.B. check the length of the pins against the depth of the timber so it doesn't go through it. So I don't cause any damage to the walls
or window frame I used ribbon to tie it to the top rail of the vertical
blinds. I passed the ribbon between the material and timber and intend
the use another couple of push pins to secure them to the timber as well
(when I get more, but works fine without). I cut the ribbon a bit
longer so I could use the running end to tie up the curtain when I want
to let the sun in - clever :P
2. Privacy curtain - So that's the sun sorted now for those nosy/weird neighbours... A nice modern style lace with a tension rod, which is the best invention ever (especially for rental apartments). The curtain lace already has a bit where you can slide the rod through and even has weights in the bottom!
What are you supposed to be showing in the bottom picture?
ReplyDeleteThe little weights that are in the bottom of the curtain. They came like that which was awesome.
ReplyDeleteAnd the lace makes the window look nicer from the outside :)
ReplyDeleteI like the colour scheme going in your bedroom =]
